Study Participation
Phase I Participation
- In Phase I of the study, one person from each National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) hospital will be asked to complete a web-based survey for their department.
- The survey is expected to take 25 minutes to complete.
- As an incentive to participate in the survey, we will hold lotteries and give away 24 $100 prizes. Six drawings will be held each week and each participant’s name will remain in the lottery for the entire survey period. Hence, the earlier you submit the survey, the more opportunity you will have to win the lottery.
- All data will be held in strictest confidence, analyzed in the aggregate, and individual hospitals will not be identified in the final reports.
- Columbia University’s Human Subject Institutional Research Review Board (IRB) has approved this study.
Phase II Participation
- Respondents who complete the survey in Phase I of the study will be asked if they are interested in being considered for Phase II.
- Select participants from Phase I will be able to enroll up to three eligible ICUs for Phase II.
- Eligibility will be determined based on Phase I survey results.
- There will be minimal data collection efforts needed, as such, the site coordinator providing the data will be compensated $250 per enrolled ICU.
- The site coordinator will oversee HAI data collection efforts at their hospital and will be responsible for providing an IRB contact at their hospital.
- Data from Phase I and II will further our understanding of which infection control processes occurring in ICU are effective and cost-effective and will serve as an update to the SENIC study.
