Welcome Letter

Registration & Financial Services would like to welcome you to the Columbia University Medical Center campus. Two of the key services that we provide are the management of your Academic Record and Student Account.

Columbia University uses an electronic distribution process for delivering bills to students; the University does not produce paper bills. You and anyone you designate as an authorized payer will be sent an e-mail notification containing the link to your E-Bill. The first E-Bill for the fall term will be sent to your e-mail address on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 and will reflect transactions through Friday, August 12, 2016. The first bill due date is September 16, 2016.

There are numerous benefits to our electronic billing system:

  • You can access your E-Bills 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through Student Services Online
  • You can assign parents or other individuals to become "authorized payers". To do so, you must log in to the E-Billing website via Student Services Online, choose the "Authorized Payer" option, and create a username and temporary password.
  • You and "authorized payers" are able to view and print your E-Bill, make electronic check payments online using our E-check service, saving time and postage.
  • All payment methods - such as writing a check remain available to anyone who prefers not to make payments online through our service. Please visit the Student Financial Services website for a comprehensive list of payment options
  • Monthly statements are available online for up to twelve months.

Here are few items to know before you begin your studies:

  • Email is the official mode of communication at the University, so please use your Columbia email address when corresponding with administrative offices.
  • All incoming students are placed on Health Hold and must be cleared by Student Health Services before you can register.
  • To check your appointment times, or register for a course, log in to SSOL and choose the registration link from the menu on the left. You will need a five digit call number to register for each course. This number accompanies the course listing, which you can find through the course search function in SSOL or in the Directory of Classes
  • If you would like to drop a course, you may do so in SSOL. However, you will not be able to drop your entire program through SSOL. To withdraw from all your courses, you must go to or contact your Deans Office to complete an Add/Drop form and formally request to Withdraw.
  • We encourage you to keep your contact information, including your permanent and local addresses, and cell phone up to date in SSOL via the View Addresses tab. Students residing at 50 Bard Hall or the Georgian should add either residential address as Local (LO) and not as Real Estate (RE).
  • All full-time registered students are charged a Student Health Fee and automatically billed the Aetna Student Health. You can waive the medical insurance via SSOL. For additional information, please visit the Student Health Services website or call (212) 305-3400.
  • Excess Credit Balances (Student Account Refunds) are processed automatically for most schools, generally within 48 hours of a valid credit appearing on the Student Account. Our refund policy will be forwarded after the start of classes. Direct Deposit is the quickest way to receive a credit on your account, so please enroll via Student Service On-line (SSOL)

We hope that you find this information useful, and if you have any additional questions about accessing your E-Bill or academic profile, here is how to reach us:

  • Use our online Q&A tool, Ask-Us
  • Call us at (212) 342-4790
  • Visit us in person at 141 Black Building, Monday Friday, 9:00am 4:30pm

We wish you the best of luck as you begin your studies.

Sincerely,

The Registration & Financial Services Team at Columbia University Medical Center
