Copying and Scanning at CUMC

Copying is available via:
  • Self-service black and white multi-function printers (MFPs) that are managed by the Pharos system. Please see the Pharos Printing web site for details including their locations, costs and the access required to use Pharos.
  • Full service from the Photocopy Center. Please review their web site for full information about copy, print, poster making and other services offered.

Scanning is available on the Pharos multi-function printers at no charge. Scans can be sent to any email address, and you will not need to log in to the printer to scan.

Copying on the Pharos Multi Function Printers
You must have an MC account and printing quota in order to copy. Copies are charged at the same rate as printing. Only black and white self service copies are available.
  1. Place your original material for copying in either:
    • the feed tray on top of the printer, face up with the first page on the top
    • lift the top lid and place it face down against the glass, aligned to the rear left corner
  2. Swipe your ID card or select the Pharos icon on the touch display in the control panel on the printer, then press OK.

  1. If prompted, type in your MC account ID for the Username and press OK, then your password and OK.
    For any login problems either use myPassword online, call us at (212) 305-4357 option 5, or come by the Service Desk on the 2nd floor of Hammer.
  2. Your Account Information will appear, press OK to continue.
  3. Select the Copy key at the upper left, next to the touch panel.
  4. In the touch panel select any desired finishing options such as:
    • Auto Reduce/Enlarge - the copier will detect the size of your original and re-size to the default paper size
    • Duplex copying - 1 sided -> 2 sided copies two 1-sided pages to one 2-sided page, while 2-sided -> 2-sided copies one 2-sided page on one 2-sided page

  5. Use the number keys to the right of the touch display to enter the number of copies.
  6. Select the Start key at the bottom right to begin copying.
  7. When finished press the # key (also labeled Enter, above the Start button).
  8. Select the Home key at the upper left of the printer control panel.
  9. Select the Pharos icon again to make sure you are logged out. If not, you can select log out in the lower right of the touch panel.
Scanning on the Pharos Multi Function Printers
Scans can be be sent to any email address as an attachment. There is no fee for scanning.
  1. Place your original material for scanning in either:
    • the feed tray on top of the printer, face up with the first page on the top
    • lift the top lid and place it face down against the glass, aligned to the rear left corner
  2. Select the Scanner key at the lower left, next to the touch panel.

  1. The touch display will show a Scanner menu. If desired select options in the left column for:
    • Scan Settings: to choose resolution, scan size, and original type (text, photo, etc.).
    • Original sides or feed type - for orientation and scan sides of originals.
    • Send File Type/Name - to select Single (separate file for each scan) or Multi-page (combine all scans to one file), file types such as TIFF/JPEG (common image formats; note that JPEG is only available with Single page) or PDF, and type in a desired file name.

  3. When ready to scan, select the Manual entry button.
  4. Type in the email address and press OK.
  5. Select the Start key at the bottom right to begin scanning.
  6. When finished press the # key (also labeled Enter, above the Start button).
  7. Select the Home key at the upper left of the printer control panel.
  8. Select the Pharos icon again to make sure you are logged out. If not, you can select log out in the lower right of the touch panel.
