Using Outlook 2011 for Macintosh with CUMC Email

Outlook 2011 for Macintosh computers is part of the Microsoft Office Suite of programs that is free to current CUMC faculty, staff and students. It is the CUMC IT standard supported email client for Macs, and offers the best compatibility with CUMC's Exchange (@cumc.columbia.edu) email accounts.

See links in the left column of this page for step by step instructions on configuring your CUMC email in Outlook 2011, managing space, working with On My Computer folders, manually moving messages, using rules to archive messages, and general help with your Exchange account in email FAQs. Recover Deleted Items
If there are messages or other items you permanently deleted by emptying your Deleted Items folder, you can try to recover them by logging in to Web Outlook. This may not work for items that are over 30 days old or if an entire folder was deleted.

  1. Log in to Web Outlook.
  2. Find your Deleted Items folder from the list on the left, and control-click (or right-click) on it.
  3. In the menu that appears select Recover Deleted Items.
  4. Scroll through the list and click on the item(s) you'd like to recover.
  5. Click the RecoverRecover Items icon icon in the upper right to restore the selected items.
  6. Select the desired folder from the list that appears, then click the Recover button.
  7. Close the Recover Deleted Items pop up window to return to Web Outlook.

Your recovered item(s) will appear in the folder selected in both Web Outlook and Outlook 2011 on your Mac after connecting to your Exchange account.
