Classroom Technology Support

Classroom Technology Support oversees the use and support of campus classrooms and auditoriums in addition to providing audio/visual and related computing services for the Columbia University Medical Center community. We are dedicated to bringing the latest teaching and learning technologies to the classroom and assisting in making every event and class an enriching experience.

    Beige 5help Phone at Classroom Podium
  • What we do - CTS Classroom Coordinators can assist with equipment issues that occur before, during, or after a scheduled class or event. Simply pick up the beige phone located on the wall next to each podium to automatically dial 5help as a priority call. If phone support is not able to help you immediately resolve the issue, a Classroom Coordinator will be dispatched and can typically arrive within minutes.
  • User responsibilities - Anyone using a CTS managed room is expected to be able to operate the equipment, or have a TA that is familiar with equipment available to assist them as outlined in Room and Equipment Use policies. A laminated quick reference guide is kept on each podium or you can review the online tutorial for the standard eRoom set up. You may also request in advance training from us or contact an outside A/V vendor to operate equipment for you during your presentation. Events are scheduled to end 10 minutes before the hour or half hour so you may reinstate the room to order if chairs were moved, the whiteboard was used or general tidying is required before the next class begins.
  • Facilities maintenance - while CTS checks rooms each weekday to verify they are in operational use, Facilities Management is responsible for CUMC general building and room maintenance including the classrooms and auditoriums. Services they cover are classroom cleaning, furniture repair and maintenance, heating, air conditioning and environmental controls and others. The Columbia University Department of Public Safety is responsible for security, fire or medical emergency issues.
