Accessibility in the Classroom

Assistive Listening Devices

Assistive listening devices are available upon request. To request an assistive listening device for one class or event, please contact Classroom Technology Support at least 48 hours in advance by calling 212-305-3255 or emailing cumcclassrooms@columbia.edu.

If an assistive listening device is needed for a student for an entire semester’s class, please indicate this on the course request spreadsheet that you submit when scheduling for the academic semester.

Assistive Technology

Assistive technology is available upon request. Examples of assistive technology include screen reading software, screen magnification software, Braille translation software, voice recognition software, reading and writing software, video magnifiers, and others.

Accessible Classroom Furniture

Accessible classroom furniture is intended for persons with disabilities who are unable or have difficulty using the existing classroom furniture. To request accessible classroom furniture, please contact Disability Services at 212-854-2388 or disability@columbia.edu.

Captioning

Captioning of videos, webinars or webcasts, or podcasts are available upon request. Disability Services can assist instructors, Columbia programs, and departments in obtaining closed captioning for videos and DVDs shown in a classroom as well as podcasts. To request captioning, please contact Disability Services at disability@columbia.edu.
