| Audio Visual Equipment Support | |
| Most audio visual equipment on campus is installed in classrooms, auditoriums and conference rooms, with the majority of the rooms using a standardized touch panel system to control the installed equipment. A limited staff of A/V technicians can provide support for non-standard equipment set up and assistance if issues arise with equipment during an event, however instructors, faculty, speakers and/or TAs are expected to be able to run equipment without a technician present. Some non-standard equipment can be requested as well. |
| Classroom Reservation Services | |
| Classrooms, Auditoriums and many Conference Rooms on campus are scheduled by CUMC IT's Classroom Technology Support group. Room reservations for academic and other event use can be requested online, with many rooms including standard computing and audio/visual equipment available for use. |

| Domain Name Registration and Vanity URLs |
|
| The CUMC community has a large and growing Web presence. These sites are used for a variety of purposes, not least of which is marketing. In support of this, the WDS provides clients with the ability to choose their own Web site address (also known as domain name, URL, or vanity URL), and has created this guide to help our clients follow best practices for domain name creation and registration at Columbia University Medical Center. |
| Desktop Support | |
| The CUMC IT Desktop Support team can provide advanced technical support services for almost any issue, both at deskside or via eSupport. Support for faculty and staff is fee based, while student support is provided for free as needed. |
| Email | |
| Email accounts are provided for students and most full time faculty and staff at Columbia. These accounts are the official work and/or academic email address for Columbia correspondence. Exchange accounts are also available from CUMC IT for those who would like to use advanced features such as Calendar sharing with the CUMC community. |
| eSupport | |
| eSupport is a service that allows CUMC IT technicians to remotely connect to your computer - with your consent - to make the troubleshooting process faster and easier. eSupport lets the technician view your computer screen, control the cursor and keyboard, and use a chat dialog window to communicate with you as they're troubleshooting. This eliminates over the phone instruction and the wait involved with having a technician come out in person. |
| Exchange | |
| CUMC IT Exchange accounts are available for users in the CUMC community, and enable rich and efficient access to a host of features such as email, Calendars and meetings, attachments, the CUMC global address book, and integration with SharePoint calendar in addition to many other features. |
| Firewall Exceptions | |
| To provide a secure campus network, CUMC is blocking default open access from the Internet in to the CUMC network, with some ports and protocols (SMTP and NetBIOS) blocked on outgoing. To permit legitimate institutional business functions a Firewall Exception Request can be submitted to the CUMC IT Network Security group.
The owner of the system requiring the exclusion must be a Director-level or above person, or a Department or Division Administrator (or a designated Departmental or Divisional System administrator), or a senior faculty member, and must be the person to submit the request. |

| Interactive Calendars |
|
| Online calendars for a small group, large department or any other purpose can be created by the Web Design Studio. |
| Long Distance Services | |

Similar to a phone company's calling card, the authorization code allows the assignee to make phone calls from any campus telephone, whether the phone is restricted or unrestricted, a public access phone or in an office or lab. All calls made with an authorization code from any campus phone will be billed to the responsible person's referenced phone number. |

A Photocopy Co-op is also available for departments and individuals to help reduce prices for those with high volume needs. |
| Printing in Public Computing Areas - Pharos |
|
