A. ASPH/CDC Summer Internships - Any full- or part-time student, enrolled in a master's or doctoral level degree program may apply.  Applicants must be affiliated with an Association of Schools of Public Health (ASPH) member school of public health. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or hold a visa permitting permanent residence in the U.S. to be eligible for the internship program.  The internship program is part of a collaborative initiative between the Association of Schools of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, to provide an opportunity for students of public health to gain "hands-on" experience. Internships typically offer a stipend of $6000 and are for ten weeks/40 hours a week.

American Society on Aging Competition for Research Projects in Aging
The American Society on Aging is accepting applications for its award for graduate research projects in the field of aging. The award is given for the best research paper on a completed project. The award is presented annually to a graduate student for research relevant to aging and applicable to practice. Applicants must either be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program or must have completed their studies no more than one year before the point of submission. Applicants do not need not be ASA members. Papers that have been published are not eligible for submission. The winner will be expected to attend the 2009 Aging in America Conference to present the winning paper and will receive a $500 cash prize and complimentary ASA membership and conference registration. The Antibiotic Resistance Unit (ARU) of the Bureau of Communicable Diseases at the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is looking for a Health Research Training Program (HRTP) Intern to assist with our qualitative community-acquired (CA) methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) investigation. The study is exploring mechanisms for MRSA transmission among men who have sex with men (MSM). The HRTP Intern will be performing literature searches; recruiting, screening and interviewing participants; performing data quality checks; entering data; analyzing data; attending meetings; and presenting preliminary findings at internal and external meetings/ conferences. Ideally, we are looking for a student who will begin in the Fall semester and carry thru the Spring semester (and possibly thru Summer of 2009). In addition the student will assist with outbreak investigations in the Bureau as needed as well as assisting in other ARU quantitative projects. The student should have familiarity with qualitative methods, familiarity with MSM populations in NYC, and a working knowledge of CA-MRSA. c. A full time Project coordinator is needed for a randomized clinical trial, funded by the National Institutes of Health, to test the effectiveness of a family weight management intervention for obese inner city children. The project coordinator will work closely with the principal investigator and research team to develop/maintain the manual of operation and to implement quality control measures for intervention implementation and data collection. Responsibilities of the Project Coordinator include keeping IRB documentation, training and supervising research staff, monitoring recruitment, retention and intervention fidelity, among other administrative duties. Candidates should be bilingual in Spanish and have experience in research project coordination. Prior experience in behavioral research and/or intervention is preferable. Education requirements: Master's degree in health-related field is preferable, BA with significant experience in medical research will be considered.
