Communications

Columbia University Medical Center creates important news every day, and the Communications and External Relations team is here to make sure the world knows about it. Our office includes a News Bureau team to communicate CUMC news to an external media audience and help the press take advantage of the wealth of expertise that CUMC offers. We also include a Publications team that develops a broad range of publications for both internal and external audiences.

Press Releases

The News Bureau produces press releases and other media materials to educate the press and public about the important health and science news that comes from Columbia University Medical Center every day.

CUMC Experts

The News Bureau helps connect reporters with some of the world's top physicians, nurses, dentists and other health professionals to provide expert commentary on the pressing medical issues of the day.

Publications

Publications produced by Communications & External Relations support the mission of the Medical Center to raise awareness of our education, research and clinical care accomplishments among internal and external audiences. Publications are distributed to faculty, staff, students, governing board members, advisory board members, representatives of the news media, elected officials and other opinion leaders, alumni and others with a vested interest in CUMC.

In Vivo is the medical center's news periodical. It covers the research occurring in our vibrant laboratories, as well as clinical care, education, policy and administrative news.

P&S Journal is a glossy magazine produced three times a year for College of Physicians & Surgeons alumni, CUMC faculty and staff, and external supporters of the medical school. The P&S annual report is also produced by the office.

The department also produces an online publication, CUMC Celebrates from Executive Vice President and Dean Lee Goldman.

Discontinued publications available in archived editions online are Biomedical Frontiers, which reported on advances in science and technology to the biotechnology industry; Health Sciences Reporter, which reported general news about and for faculty and staff of CUMC; and 21stC, a Columbia University research publication. Past issues of ongoing publications are available online.
