The OSR maintains a listserv for faculty, trainees or doctoral students interested in keeping up with relevant calls for proposals, courses offered to assist with grant submission and enhancing research skills, REX Group and Research Seminar Series announcements, and other pertinent information. If you wish to be added to the OSR listserv, please submit your name to the OSR by e-mailing email@example.com.
Reach for Research Excellence (REX) Group
The Reach for Research Excellence (REX) Group is a forum coordinated by the OSR to discuss a wide variety of scholarly activities and research-related topics for School of Nursing faculty and pre-/post-doctoral trainees. The REX Group occurs during the academic year on the 3rd Thursdays of September, November, January, March, and May from 12:00pm-1:00pm in the 1st Floor Student Lounge (Lunch is served). Previous REX Groups have provided opportunities for mock review sessions, overviews of funding mechanisms, and a re-examination of the School’s Research Emphasis and Model of Conceptual Underpinnings. Suggestions for topics for future REX Groups are always welcome, and announcements about upcoming sessions are distributed periodically. To be notified of scheduled REX Group sessions, please request to be added to the OSR Listserv by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
OSR Research Seminar Series
The world of sponsored projects is constantly evolving, and one of the responsibilities of the OSR is to ensure that CUSON faculty members are informed of trends and changes in the field. The OSR Research Seminar Series, typically offered bi-annually during one of the REX Group sessions, covers “hot topics” in sponsored projects research and is a means of disseminating important and timely information to faculty members. Past topics have included “Changes to NIH Grant Applications,” “Post-Award Processes,” “Funding Mechanisms,” and “The NIH-APPS Workshop,” which covered aspects of the new NIH application, structure, and scoring methods. To be notified of scheduled OSR Research Seminar Series, please request to be added to the OSR Listserv by e-mailing email@example.com.

Specific Objectives and Aims for Research (SOAR) Presentations
The Specific Objectives and Aims for Research (SOAR) Presentations are informal, 1-hour sessions in which faculty members present the specific aims of a proposal in development to other CUSON faculty members for guidance, feedback, and suggestions for revision. This is an opportunity to help PIs focus and strengthen their specific aims and obtain guidance on the subsequent sections of the application such as Significance, Innovation, Approach, Methodology, and/or Design. SOARs are required as part of the application process for the School’s Center-Based Pilot Grants, but can be arranged at any time. The official policy and procedures for SOAR Sessions is located in the School of Nursing Policy Library on the School’s Intranet site at: http://vesta.cumc.columbia.edu/nursing/intranet/. Please contact the OSR at firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange a SOAR for your upcoming application.
Every grant proposal from the School must undergo rigorous critique and peer review before it is submitted. The OSR works with the Associate Dean for Research to set up and schedule mock reviews. Allow as much time as possible for making changes if warranted, ideally 2 months before but not less than 4 weeks before the submission date. The official policy and procedures for Mock Reviews is located in the School of Nursing Policy Library on the School’s Intranet site at: http://vesta.cumc.columbia.edu/nursing/intranet/. Please contact the OSR at email@example.com for assistance in arranging a mock review.
